Election Information 2021 Langlois Water District

Election Information 2021 Langlois Water District

Dear Community Members,

The Langlois Water District will have three positions up for re-election this year. Position number(s) 3-Janet Hubel, 4-Warren Fitzgerald and 5-Judy Fitzgerald. The Langlois Water District desperately needs community support and volunteers to work in these elected positions while serving your community. Thank you to those who have stepped up already and have served their community.

Positions may require little more than monthly attendance while others will require addition time within the month to follow through with Board responsibilities and assignments. Board positions ie. Board Char, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary are determined and voted in by the new Board at the first meeting.

Who can run for office?

Any registered voter who resides within the boundaries of the established Langlois Water District.

Langlois Water District is basically defined as those residence between Bono Road and Allen Boice Ln.

How to File for an Elected Position on the Water Board

Print the Candidate Filing Form (SEL190) and Candidate Signature Sheet (SEL121), or pick up a packet at the library or post office, and follow the instructions.

Filing dates are 6 February through 18 March 2021. Applications must be received by the Curry County Election Office on or before 18 March 2021.

Fill out Candidate File form (SEL 190), you have two choices, you can either send in a $10.00 fee OR a petition (SEL 121) form with your submission. A Petition requires 15 signatures from registered voters residing within the water district. The $10.00 does not require any signatures. You must list which position you are running for…. Position #3, #4, or #5. It is very important that not all candidates run for the same position!

If you have any questions please call for Warren (Hal) Fitzgerald at the Langlois Water Office and they will relay a message to him. Ph 541-348-2142.

Thank you for your consideration!

Wanted: Images and recolections of Lakeport Oregon

Wanted: Images and recolections of Lakeport Oregon

We've been meaning to do a write up of the doomed town of lakeport which was envisioned as the largest port between San Fransisco and Seattle right here on Floras lake in the early 1900's.

Lakeport, for a brief time the largest town in Curry County, was located on Floras Lake, a 236-acre freshwater lake on the Oregon Coast ten miles north of Port Orford. The town had a dramatic rise and fall in the early twentieth century, when the adroit boosterism of Lakeport’s potential as a port town turned out to be based on false promises.

It's a great local story and has been documented in a book and in old newspapers ( see Lakeport, Ghost Town of the South Oregon Coast: An Oregon Documentary Paperback – April 1, 1990 by Bert and Margie Webber available at the Langlois LIbrary)

I just thought maybe if someone has some old school photos from those days it would be interesting to digitize them and do a write up of this period .. Langlois was almost the biggest port town adjacent on the whole west coast (spoiler .. Floras lake is above sea level so it all drained out .. thus no port)

Please use the Contact Us page to let us know if you've got any Lakeport info/pics etc.  Thanks! Read more about Wanted: Images and recolections of Lakeport Oregon
