LANGLOIS PUBLIC LIBRARY PANDEMIC RESPONSE PLAN as of 3/14/2020

The State of Oregon has now limited gatherings, and closed all k-12 schools. The library has removed all toys and games from circulation, and will be cancelling all meetings and gatherings until April 8th. We will also be implementing other control measures to help insure that we are doing all we can to help prevent the spread of this virus.

  1. Staff will wipe down all incoming items, and set them aside for 24 hrs before putting them in circulation. This will also pertain to holds items. We know from past experience that anything more than this is not effective, but Covid seems to be more persistent than past outbreaks, so we will err on the side of caution.
  2. We will be limiting Library hours to allow staff to wipe down as many surfaces as possible, and to wipe down the computers.  Computers will be wiped down after each use by staff, though patrons will be offered wipes to do so themselves. This will also allow time for staff to deal with the increased work of taking care of incoming items. Staff will also wipe down at the end of shift.
  3. Patron Library hours will be: Monday 2 PM - 6 PM Tuesday - Saturday 12 PM - 4 PM (We will move back to regular hours as soon as is prudent.) Staff will be present from 10 am - 5 pm.
  4. We will also institute curbside service to limit contact. Patrons will only need to call the library and a staff member will bring their items out (this is only for the duration of this crisis). Curbside service will be available from 12 pm - 4 pm.
  5. The library internet will be on and accessible from the parking lot even when the library is closed to patrons.
  6. If you feel ill in any way, please don’t come to the library even to return materials. We will take care of any overdue fines.
  7. ALL meetings, programs, and events are postponed till further notice.

The LPL Board is closely monitoring and evaluating the changing situation and will adjust our response plan accordingly. For the duration, stay home, stay healthy! Let’s
protect our community.

If you can't avoid going out, remember social distancing is the phrase of the day.

Just Jensens A Woodwind Quartet

Date:

Sunday, January 26, 2020 - 3:00pm

Come enjoy a concert by Just Jensens at 3:00 p.m. on January 26, who will perform an assortment of contemporary and classical music in arrangements customized for this unique group. Though the group hails from Coos Bay/North Bend area, their roots are in the Langlois area.

Three sisters grew up in Denmark, Oregon, and their sister-in-law (Judy Marsh Jensen) in Port Orford. The sisters, Judy Jensen Snyder, Peggy Jensen Christensen, and Bonnie Jensen Cox, were children of Charlie Jensen, originator of the Langlois and Port Orford band programs and instrumental music teacher for the 2CJ District for 12 years. Jensen and his wife, Wilma, established a music store in Port Orford in the 1960s that they later moved to the Pony Village Mall.

The four Jensen women formed their ensemble in 2006 and have performed in various venues over the years. All are members of the Bay Area Concert Band.

The Friends of the Langlois Library are pleased to offer this opportunity for the community to enjoy these musicians carrying on the legacy of Charlie Jensen.

The event is free, but donations will be appreciated.

Langlois LIbrary District Board Meetings. & other news

Date:

Wednesday, January 8, 2020 - 6:30pm

The Langlois Library Board update:

We would like to keep the community informed of the upcoming changes in keeping with revitalizing the library. The most important item: please note that the regular board meeting date has been changed permanently to the 2rd Wednesday of each month at 6: 30 pm. The next meeting: January 8th.. Again we encourage the public to attend to hear how the library is progressing. Your input is invaluable. We alsos have appointed a new board member after several months of vacancy for position # 5- Deanna McDermott.

Library hours have increased to six days a week, Mon through Sat 11 am-5 pm. Two new enthusiastic employees have been hired: Lo Saechao & Annie Wilson. Denise Willms, library consultant, remains on site on Fridays and Saturdays and is available for phone consults otherwise.

The new web site is up and running and is worth a visit at https://langloispubliclibrary.org/. Besides access to Coastline Libraries Catalog, one can find profiles of the new board members, events and more. If you have any concerns, please use the web site for board member contact information.

We can be found on Facebook as well.

The library is again accepting donations of books for the Friends of the Langlois Library book sale on Saturday, Feb 29 9am- 4p at the Langlois Lions Club. The library is unable to accept stained, mildewed or otherwise damaged books. In addition, because the following do not sell and is costly to get rid of, the library will no longer accept Reader’s Digest magazines, any condensed books or encyclopedia sets.

The Just Jensens band is scheduled at the library from 3 pm to 4:30 on January 26th. This event, sponsored by the Friends of the Langlois Libary, is certain to be extremely enjoyable as the family continues with the founding father Charlie Jensen’s great musical legacy.

Finally, the board and staff of the library are looking forward to continuing to enhance services to our patrons and we will keep the community informed as we progress.

Lo Saechoa

Annie Wilson
