Friday, November 22, 2019 - 9:00am

Start the season with a visit to the 28th Annual Holiday Craft Fair at the Lions Hall on Floras Lake Loop Road just south of Langlois.  The fair will be held on Friday and Saturday, November 22nd and 23rd, from 9:00 AM to 4 PM and is sponsored by the Langlois Lions and the Friends of the Langlois Library

Bring a friend and treat yourself to a lunch by our own World Famous Sandie McDonald.  Friday, Sandie is serving her chicken dumpling soup & bread, and on Saturday, Swedish meatball soup & bread.  Green salad & vegetarian options are available

Look for Craft Fair signs on Highway 101.  Parking is plentiful.  Great shopping, food and friends!  Questions: 541-248-2242 or 541-348-2507

LANGLOIS LIBRARY RE-OPENS

We are open again! Thanks to gifts of $1000 each from two angels and a grant of $3000 from the Friends of LPL, the Langlois Public Library is pleased to announce our new hours. Beginning Friday, September 27, you may visit the library on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11 AM to 6 PM. We will add more open days later in the year.

Denise Willms, Director of the Port Orford Library, has signed a contract to manage the Langlois Public Library following the resignation of former Library Director Karen Schaefer. The Library Board is so grateful for Denise’s skills, energy and enthusiasm which she will apply to creating the financial and organizational stability we need before searching for a permanent Director.

The BoaAnchorrd also wants to acknowledge the overwhelming support of our library community at the special meeting September 18. Special guests included the State Librarian of Oregon Jennifer Patterson, former
Langlois Library Director Nancy Angelesco and representatives of the Bandon, Port Orford, and Gold Beach libraries.

We urge the community to show their support as well by volunteering to fill the vacancy on the Library Board or by helping out at the Library. The Friends of LPL also need volunteers to sit on the Friends’ Board or to assist at fund-raising events.

TEMPORARY LIBRARY CLOSURE!!!

To Patrons of the Langlois Public Library(LPL)

TEMPORARY LIBRARY CLOSURE

Effective September 5, 2019 the Library will be closed for a brief period to reorganize staffing, finances, and policies. During this hiatus patrons may still return books and DVDs to the LPL book drop and check out materials at any other Coastline library. We regret this inconvenience to our patrons.

The Library’s financial stability is the LPL Board’s top priority. The Library needs about $35,000 for our usual operations from July 1 through mid- November when property taxes come in. But this year on July 1 we had some large unanticipated expenses to deal with and only $27,000 available to spend. Today we no longer have enough money to continue business as usual. We will be exploring options for cost-cutting and for additional funding.

The public is invited to a

Special Meeting at the Library, Wednesday, September 18, 6:30 PM

for a status review, Q&A, and public input. We hope to re-open soon after.

Our thanks to the Curry County Library Network, and in particular the Port Orford Public Library, for their help and guidance during this period of reorganization.

The Board is seeking dedicated volunteer participation to be part of the Langlois Public Library family. Volunteers are needed: to assist staff with check-in, check-out and shelving; for lawn mowing and grounds care; for Library website and patron bulletin board upkeep. For information call 541-348-2021 or email volunteers.lpl@gmail.com .

The community of Langlois and all LPL patrons are needed to help plan, build, and maintain the future of our Library.

Susan Orbom, Chair, LPL Board
